The first step is to just restart your computer. Most of the times windows errors are fixed when we restart our computer.  If the error still exists then follow these methods.

Method 1: Using System Restore

The first most and best advice a computer geek can give you to fix an error with your Windows is to use System Restore Utility to restore your computer to an earlier stage when it was working properly.  Follow these steps to restore your computer.

Windows 7: Click on start >> Type System Restore in the search box.

Windows 8 &10: Click on search button located near to start button and type system restore.

After launching system restore select a date when your computer was working properly and follow the wizard to restore your computer.

Method 2: Using system file checker utility

  • Go to start >> run and type CMD and launch command prompt. (remember to right click and “run as administrator”).
  • At the command prompt, type Sfc/scannow and press enter button.
  • System file checker (SFC) utility will start scanning your computer to fix any corrupted windows files. After the scan process finish, restart your computer. This is the most effective method to fix Windows explorer has stopped working error.

Please note system file checker utility can only run if you have administrative privileges.

Method 3: Running a virus scan to clean your computer

Your computer might be affected by a virus which stops many windows components to work properly. A computer virus can slow down your speed and cause a number to critical functional and performance issues. It is always advised to install good antivirus software and keep it updated.
